Mahwah, NJ: The Golden Lions, of Division II Dowling College, just snuck past the Ramapo College men’s tennis team, 5-4, to improve to 6-2 on the year, today at the Athletic Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners threatened Dowling, a team that competes in the NCAA Championship Tournament each year, by splitting the singles match-ups, and just falling short on the doubles side of the match.
Dowling was unable to dominate in either the single or double flights as the Roadrunners, led by
Keith Dobrin (Tinton Falls, NJ) and
Jared Rochman (Oakland, NJ), stood strong against the DII powerhouse. Dobrin and Rochman earned back-to-back singles victories defeating Pedro Munoz and Kevin Lotito respectively. Dobrin recorded a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at fourth singles while Rochman posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the fifth spot.
Matt Soos (Barnegat, NJ) earned the third point for the Roadrunners in singles match-ups going 6-1, 6-2 over A. Wolfthal at sixth singles.
Dobrin and Rochman had the lone point in double play shutting out the Dowling pair, 8-0, while Soos and
Allen Kats (Montville, NJ) fell just short in the second doubles spot, 8-3.
Prasanna Fernando (Wood-Ridge, NJ) and
Joe Marino (Goshen, NY) dropped a tough doubles match-up, 8-2 at first doubles.
In last year’s meeting, Dowling defeated the Roadrunners, 7-2.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday, March 31st when they host Hunter College at 3:00 PM at the Athletic Center.
