Ithaca, NY: The Ramapo College softball team saw their season come to an end today with a 0-1 loss to the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College in the 2008 NCAA Ithaca Regional. The Roadrunners wrap up the season with a 34-12 record.

The #8 seeded Yellow Jackets would only need one run to defeat the #2 seeded Roadrunners. Defiance scored the game’s only run in the top of the second inning when Cara Hughes hit a one-out single to left field and was replaced by pinch runner Allison Ramsay. Kayla Crager’s then ripped a double to the left center gap to put Defiance up, 1-0.

The Roadrunners had chances to score in the game including the bottom half of the second. Junior Kelly Schriber (Montclair, NJ) reached on an error to lead off the inning and stole second with no outs. Defiance pitcher, Justine Johnston, would get three straight outs from heart of the Ramapo lineup to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Johnston got out of a jam again in the third as Ramapo would load the bases. Rookie Sonni Caruso (River Vale, NJ) doubled to left centerfield before rookie Brittney McKeon (Toms River, NJ) and senior Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) recorded back to back walks with two outs. Johnston would get Schriber to fly out to right field to end the Ramapo threat.

Rookie Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) was the lone Roadrunner with multiple hits going 2-3 while senior Tara Eagel (Ocean Twp., NJ) and Caruso each went 1-2.

Rookie Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) fell to 8-3 giving up only four hits over five innings with five strikeouts. Senior Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) pitched the final two innings, she did not give up a hit while striking out three in relief.
