The Ramapo College softball team finished their season with a 34-12 overall record, 14-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners began their season the week of March 9th -15th in Osceola, Florida at the Rebel Spring Games recording an 11-1 record, the best record under Head Coach Ben Allen. The Roadrunners swept on opening day, defeating Defiance College and Cortland State, 8-5 and 1-0 respectively. The next day, then ranked #15 Coe College, handed Ramapo its first loss of the season, 0-1, before they bounced back with a 5-2 win over Emerson. Ramapo went on an eight game win streak to close out the week. They defeated Baldwin-Wallace, 6-2, Lake Forest, 11-0, Mount Union, 4-2 in eight innings, and shutout Heidelberg 5-0. On March 14th they picked up an extra inning win over Ursinus, 2-1 before defeating Coast Guard, 5-3. On the final day of play, Ramapo defeated Simpson and Mount Vernon, both 4-2.

On March 27th, Ramapo’s streak was snapped by Western Connecticut as they shutout Ramapo, 0-8. The Roadrunners bounced back to take game two, 9-5. They opened up the 2008 NJAC season on the road at The College of NJ with a double-header sweep over the Lions, 6-4 and 2-0. Back home, Ramapo hosted College of Staten Island and came away with 7-2 and 9-0 victories, before three straight NJAC double headers came up on the schedule. Ramapo defeated Rutgers-Camden, 12-4 and 10-1 on April 6th, before hosting NJAC rival William Paterson. They posted a 5-0 shutout win before falling 4-5 in eight innings. Ramapo traveled to the ranked #16, Montclair State, falling to the Red Hawks, 2-3 and 1-3, before falling to non-conference foe, Saint Joseph’s- Patchogue, 0-1 and 0-2.

The Roadrunners bounced back with a NJAC double-header sweep on the road at #21 ranked Rowan, 2-1 and 5-4, before defeating Hunter at home, 3-0 and 4-3. On April 15th they hosted Rutgers-Newark defeating the Scarlet Raiders, 9-1 and 8-0. Ramapo capped off their 13-game winning streak with sweeps over Albright, 3-0 and 10-2, Stockton, 3-1 and 6-0, and New Jersey City, 9-1 and 5-1. On the final day of the regular season, Ramapo traveled to NJAC rival Kean, winning game one 11-0, and falling to the Cougars 0-2 in the nightcap.

Ramapo finished second in the NJAC for the second year in a row and would receive the #2 seed in the 2008 NJAC Tournament. Ramapo hosted #5 seeded Kean University defeating the Cougars 2-0, before heading to Montclair State Softball Stadium for the remainder of the 2008 tournament. The Roadrunners fell to #4 TCNJ, 0-1 and would meet #5 Kean, for the fourth time in a week. Ramapo fell 2-3 to end their hopes of their first ever NJAC Championship. Despite the loss the Roadrunners were awarded an at-large bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament, the programs fifth in the last six years, earning the #2 seed in the Ithaca Regional. They defeated #7 Penn State-Behrend, 4-1, before falling to #6 Bethany, 1-5, and #8 Defiance, 0-1, to end their hopes of their second Regional Title.


Senior Lauren Cascino wrapped her career batting .389 (56-144). She led the team with 28 runs scored while driving in 22. She ripped nine doubles, one triple and a team leading four homeruns. Junior Kelly Schriber closed out the season batting .386 (44-114) with 19 runs scored and 23 RBI. She ripped ten doubles and three homeruns while fellow junior Marilee Farmer batted .315 (40-127), scoring 27 runs while knocking in a team high 27. Farmer collected six doubles, one triple and two homeruns. Junior Amanda Sansevere ripped 25 hits with five doubles, one triple and one homerun. She knocked in 21 RBI while scoring 14 of her own. Sophomore Katie Donnelly batted .338 (46-136) with three doubles and a team high three triples. She scored 26 runs while knocking in 11. Donnelly broke the single season stolen base record with 30 on the season. Rachel Wong wrapped up her rookie season with a .339 average (40-118), ripping nine doubles. She scored 16 runs while knocking in 25 while fellow rookie Brittney McKeon recorded 33 hits, five doubles two triples and two home runs. She knocked in 15 RBI while scoring 21 runs and a team high 16 walks.

Senior Katie Norton closed out her career with a 14-5 record and a 1.11 ERA. She struck out 93 in 132.1 innings pitched. She led the team with 25 appearances, 19 games started, and 16 complete games. She fired five shutouts while holding her opponents to a .197 batting average. Senior Heather Camb went undefeated on the mound, 3-0. Camb made six appearances while starting three games. She pitched 18.1 innings and struck out 19. Rookie Lyndsay Buehler recorded an 8-3 overall record with 15 appearances with 62.1 innings pitched. She struck out 74 while opponents batted .173. Rookie Deanna Giordano posted a 1.17 ERA with a 7-3 record. Giordano recorded 65.2 innings pitched, striking out 50. Rookie Kristina Jimenez saw eight appearances and five starts posting a 2-1 record. She struck out 15 over 25 innings pitched.

Head Coach Ben Allen returns all but six to his 2008 roster. Congratulations and good luck to seniors Tara Eagel, Lauren Cascino, Katie Norton, Danielle Labriola, Heather Camb, and Kendall Patton.
