ROADRUNNERS DOWN SCREAMING EAGLES, 15-1

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team opened up the 2010 season with a 15-1 victory over the College of Saint Elizabeth today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners start off the season 1-0 while the Screaming Eagles fall to 0-2.

Ramapo got on the board fifteen seconds into the game when sophomore Jessica Long (Wayne, NJ) scored the first goal of the season for the Roadrunners before she assisted senior Angela Belotta to take a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore Christina Cigolini (Ridgewood, NJ) scored with 27:31 remaining off a pass from junior Kristen Jakubik (Cranford, NJ) before Belotta and sophomore Brittany Gazzanigo (Millstone Twp., NJ) teamed up for her second goal of the half with 27:20 on the clock. Gazzanigo picked up the assist on rookie Adrianna Tepedino's (Freehold, NJ) goal with 27:08 left in the game while rookie Samantha Litchfield (Clifton, NJ) hit the back of the net to make it 6-0 with 22:43 left in the first half.

Sophomore Colleen Steel (Wyckoff, NJ) recorded the assist on back to back goals for Ramapo, Jakubik scored at 20:58 and rookie Amanda Ferry (Gloucester City, NJ) hit the back of the net at 20:55. Rookie Katrina Hill (Metuchen, NJ) posted her first goal off a pass from Cigolini. Junior Maria Nappo (Oceanport, NJ) scored an unassisted shot with just over a twelve minutes left in the half.

The Screaming Eagles got on the board when rookie Meghan Murray (Knowlton, NJ) hit the back of the net before junior Jenna Pfarr scored the final goal of the half for Ramapo with 51 seconds remaining on a free position shot to go up 10-1.

The Roadrunners shutout the Screaming Eagles in the second half. Ramapo scored four more goals for a 15-1 win. Sophomore Brittney Harraka (Clifton, NJ), rookie Katie Bruno (Middletown, NJ), seniorJourdan Chiavaro (Manchester, NJ) and junior Diana Silva (Howell, NJ) all hit the back of the net for their first goals of the year.

Senior Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ) saw 43:06 minutes in the net to pick up the win as she posted one save. Silva recorded 16:54 in the net with one save.

The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to Wells College on March 13th at 1:00 PM.
