BACKLUND NAMED AVCA ALL-AMERICAN; SCOTT, KONOPACKI, VAHALLA EARN NECVA HONORS

Mahwah, NJ:  Senior libero Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) has been named to the 2010 AVCA Division III All-American 2nd Team, released today from the AVCA office in Lexington, KY.

Backlund is a four-year member, and captain of the Ramapo men's volleyball team, who lead the team to 20 wins this year, and 2nd place in the NECVA Metro Division.  Backlund is ranked 6th nationally in digs per game and led the Roadrunners with 320 digs, 3.48 per game this season.

For his efforts on the court, Backlund was named to the NECVA Metro All-Conference First Team and NECVA All-Conference First Team.

Fellow senior Matt Scott (Edison, NJ) earned NECVA Metro All-Conference First Team as well as NECVA All-Conference Second Team after leading his team with 1,272 assists, 13.11 per game.  He recently recorded his 2,000th career assist in a 3-0 sweep over Division II New Haven.  Scott  led the team in blocks with 83 while chipping in 193 digs, second on the team.

Sophomore Paul Konopacki (Monroe Twp., NJ) and rookie Steve Vahalla (Bloomfield, NJ) also earned NECVA Metro All-Conference First Team and Second Team respectively for their tremendous efforts on the court this season.  Konopacki, a middle hitter, hit .401 on the year, recording 224 kills, while Vahalla posted 244 kills, 2.84 per game, and 29 total blocks in his freshman campaign.  Konopacki was second on the team in blocks with 82.
