Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball swept NJAC rival Richard Stockton College today, 8-0 in five innings and 4-1, in the final regular season double header of the year. The Roadrunners improve to 27-13 and 14-4 in the conference while the Ospreys fall to 21-13, 9-9 in the conference.
In the first inning, senior
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) reached on a bunt single to third base before stealing second and was moved to third on a single through the right side by rookie
Amanda Kent (Sparta, NJ) to put runners on the corners. Sophomore
Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ) ripped a single to right field plating Donnelly for the first run of the game. Rookie
Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, NY) ripped a single through the right side as Kent scored, as the Stockton right fielder made a great play to force Schrippa out a first. With two outs sophomore Stephanie Malgeri singled to center field allowing Rothenberger to score from second base, 3-0.
In the bottom of the second inning, rookie
Janet Brown (Point Pleasant, NJ) ripped her second home run of season over the right field wall to go up, 4-0 before Donnelly singled home rookie
Kelsey Higgins (Wall, NJ) who reached on a walk earlier in the inning to go up 5-0. Ramapo added a run in the third to take a 7-0 lead when Schirripa tagged up from third base on Brown’s line drive out to right field.
Junior
Jaclyn Giangrande (Belleville, NJ) smacked her third home run of the season over the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth inning for the eighth run of the game.
Junior
Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) picked up her 11th win of the season as she scattered four hits while striking at four without walking a batter.
In game two, Ramapo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Schirripa scored an unearned run before the bases were loaded for rookie Kelsey Higgins. She hit into a fielder’s choice to short stop as Malgeri scored on the play while Stockton recorded an out, 2-0.
In the third inning, junior
Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) ripped a double to right field to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on Schirripa’s RBI single up the middle to take a 3-0 lead. Ramapo would get their final run of the game when pinch runner rookie Erin Brady scored on a wild pitch, 4-0.
The Osprey’s got their only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth as pinch runner Jamie Gasko scored on a wild pitch. The Roadrunners were able to hold the lead the final two innings to pick up their 27th win of the season.
Junior
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) (14-3) picked up the win as she struck out seven and walked one while scattering three hits.
Schirripa was 5-7 with three runs scored and three RBI with a home run and a double while Donnelly was 4-6 with one run scored and one RBI and Brown was 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI with one walk and a home run.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, May 4th as they clinched a spot in the 2010 NJAC Tournament. Richard Stockton must wait until the final games are played today to see if they earned a bid. The bracket will be announced later tonight.
