10-5-2 Overall, 3-5-1 NJAC
The Ramapo College men’s soccer team finished their 2009 season standing at 10-5-2 overall, 1-6-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The team continued to improve their win streak when ahead at the half. This year, Ramapo stood at 6-0 improving their overall record for the last 14 years to 106-2 when leading at the half.
The Roadrunners opened the season with a 7-0 shutout win over Centenary (NJ) on September 1st before posting two more shutout wins in the President’s Cup, 9-0 over Lehman and 8-0 over Berkeley. The team recorded a 2-1 win over FDU-Florham before traveling to Eastern Connecticut State where they tied 1-1 in double overtime. Ramapo defeated SUNY Old Westbury, 5-0 for their fourth shutout of the season. They recorded their first NJAC win of the season with a 2-1 road win at Rutgers-Newark.
Ramapo hosted NJAC rival William Paterson on September 23rd and ended the game in a 2-2 tie in double over time. The Roadrunners fell in a conference game to Stockton, 1-4 before bouncing back with a shutout win over New Jersey City University, 2-0. Rowan handed the Roadrunners a 1-0 loss before they recorded a non-conference win over rival Drew, 2-0. The team fell in their next two conference games against Montclair State, 1-2 and Rutgers-Camden, 1-4.
Ramapo won two of their final three games in the 2009 season with wins over Western Connecticut State, 2-1 and NJAC rival The College of NJ, 2-0 before losing to Kean 1-0.
The Roadrunners saw much individual success this season. Rookie
Rob Santaniello (Oakland, NJ) scored 16 goals to lead the team while he tallied six assists for a team high 38 points. His four game winning goals also led the team. Senior
Justin Stone (Marlboro, NJ) posted six goals; one game winner and three assists while senior
Matt Fleissner (Scotch Plains, NJ) tallied five goals and five assists with three game winning goals. Fleissner also went 2-2 in penalty kicks.
Sophomore
Frank Vogas (Clifton, NJ) led the team with seven assists while scoring four goals and senior
Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ) started all 17 games in the net for Ramapo as he recorded, 1,570 minutes, with a goal against average of 0.80. He posted 88 saves and seven shutouts.
