18-9 Overall, 7-6 NJAC
The Ramapo College men’s basketball team finished their 2009-2010 season standing at 18-9 overall, 7-6 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and a third place finish in the North Division.
The Roadrunners opened the 2009-2010 season with a 95-83 win over the City College of NY on the road before coming home to host the 2010 Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament. They defeated Yeshiva, 74-63 before defeating Wentworth, 75-53 in the Championship game. Ramapo took a game from York (NY) on the road, 62-54 before they fell in their first NJAC contest, 58-61 to rival William Paterson.
At the Salisbury Tournament, Hampden-Sydney handed the Roadrunners an 87-78 loss before Ramapo bounced back to defeat Methodist, 123-117 in double overtime. The Roadrunners then went on a five game win streak with wins over NJAC rival Montclair State, 75-72, New York City Tech, 94-59, Farmingdale State, 101-96 and U-Mass Dartmouth at the ECAC Holiday Festival, 92-90. Ramapo fell to Wesley, 86-80 in the Championship game of the ECAC Holiday Festival in Orlando, FL. The team defeated Vassar on the road, 86-78 before picking up two key NJAC victories over Rutgers Camden, 78-698 and Rowan, 95-87 in overtime. In their next seven straight conference games the Roadrunners went 4-3 with wins over New Jersey City, Stockton, the College of NJ and Montclair State. They fell to Kean, Rutgers Newark and William Paterson during that time before bouncing back with a 105-80 win over John Jay. They fell in their final two conference games of the season to New Jersey City, 73-65 and to Rutgers-Newark, 65-59.
Ramapo earned the North’s #3 seed in the 2010 NJAC Tournament and would travel to the South’s #2 seed Rowan on February 20th where they Roadrunners would come away with a 62-60 victory. In the semi-final against the North’s #1 seed William Paterson, Ramapo fell 55-37, ending their chance at their third NJAC Title.
Sophomore LaQuan Peterkin recorded 416 points, 15.4 per game, led the Roadrunners, he was 155-248 from the field shooting 62%. He also shot 76% (106-138) from the foul line while he grabbed 211 rebounds, blocked 25 shots while recording 19 assists and 17 steals. Senior Andre Kenny tallied 364 points, 126 rebounds, 95 assists and grabbed 44 steals. Sophomore AJ LoRusso recorded 268 points, while sinking 31 three-pointers. He also shot 81% from the foul line (99-122) while he dished out 79 assists and grabbed 20 steals. Sophomore Davian Plunkett scored 224 points and grabbed a team high 222 rebounds while tallying 30 blocks and 33 steals. Sophomore Garrett Thiel recorded 222 points, 81 rebounds, 60 assists and 31 steals.
