Mahwah, NJ: Three Roadrunners have earned NJAC Athlete of the Week honors this week, released today by the conference office.
Rookie men's soccer athlete,
Modou Sowe, rookie women's volleyball player,
Larysa Iwaskiw, and rookie runner
Lucy Peschel, were all honored by the New Jersey Athletic Conference for their efforts this week with their respective teams.
Sowe, out of Harrison High School, earns NJAC Rookie of the Week and ECAC Athlete of the Week honors after leading the Roadrunners to a 2-0-1 week of play by tallying eight points. He opened the week by registering two goals during a 7-0 victory over Lehman. Two days later, he notched one goal during a 7-1 road victory over Medgar Evers. He wrapped up the week by recording one goal during a 3-3 double-overtime draw to Richard Stockton. Sowe currently ranks tied for third in the NJAC in goals this season (7).
Iwaskiw, from Immaculate Heart Academy, earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth consecutive week this season after averaging 4.08 kills and 4.50 digs during a 2-1 week of play for the Roadrunners. She opened the week by notching 19 kills, 18 digs, two blocks and three service aces during a 3-2 road defeat to FDU-Florham. That same day, she registered 15 kills, 14 digs, and two service aces during a 3-0 victory over Mount Aloysius. She wrapped up the week by tallying 15 kills, 22 digs, and one block during a 3-1 victory over Hunter. Iwaskiw currently leads the NJAC in kills (5.35 per set) and service aces (0.73 per set).
Finally, Peschel, out of Wayne Hills, earns NJAC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week honors after competing at Ramapo's own Roadrunner Cross Country Invitational. She finished fifth in a field of 80 runners in the 6k race with a time of 20:47.8 The performance by Peschel helped the Roadrunners take home first place in the meet which featured 11 teams.
